Privacy
Your practice is yours.
Interviews can be personal. Here is plainly what AscendMock stores, what it doesn't, and who processes what. AscendMock is operated by Isaiah Chae, based in Washington, USA.
What we store
- Your account details: name, email, and optional university, major, and graduation year.
- Your interview setup: interview type, organization, position, and any job description or highlights you provide.
- Your answers (typed, or the text transcribed from dictation) and the follow-up questions you were asked.
- Your scores and feedback, so you can revisit reports and track progress.
What we don't store
- Video. Your camera preview stays in your browser. It is not recorded or uploaded.
- Audio. We don't record or store audio.
- We don't analyze your face, expression, or appearance.
- Resume files. If you upload a resume, we read its text once to suggest highlights (sent to the AI provider to summarize) and discard the file. Only the highlights you keep are saved with that interview.
Voice dictation
If you choose to dictate answers, AscendMock uses your browser's built-in speech recognition. Depending on your browser, your browser vendor may process audio on its own servers to produce text. That processing is governed by the browser vendor, not AscendMock. You can always type your answers instead.
AI processing
To generate questions and feedback, the information you provide (setup details and your answers) is sent securely from our servers to our AI provider, Anthropic (Claude). Keys for that provider are kept on the server and are never exposed to your browser. When AscendMock runs in demo mode, no data is sent to an AI provider and feedback is labeled as coming from the demo evaluator.
Your AI interviewer
- Interviewers are shown from images and video stored with AscendMock. Nothing about you is sent to make them appear or move.
- Their natural voices are generated by OpenAI: to speak a question, the question's text is sent from our servers to OpenAI's speech service. Your answers, camera, and microphone are never sent to it. If natural voices are unavailable, your browser's built-in speech engine reads the question instead.
- Realistic interviewers (Ascend Pro) are streamed live by our avatar provider, LiveAvatar by HeyGen. To speak a question, the question's text is sent to that provider. Your answers, camera, and microphone are never sent to it, and the stream isn't recorded by AscendMock.
- In Text-Only mode, no audio plays and no realistic-avatar stream is started.
Organizations
If you join an organization (like a club or career center), its admins see your name and email. If you choose to share it, they also see a practice summary: interviews completed after you joined, your average and latest score, and when you last practiced. They never see your answers, feedback, or reports. You can stop sharing or leave at any time. If an organization sponsors your Ascend Pro, it sees only that you hold a seat, never what you do with it.
Other service providers
- Vercel hosts AscendMock and processes each request to the site, including your IP address, to serve it. Vercel Web Analytics also counts page views (page, referring site, country, device type) without cookies or personal profiles.
- Supabase stores your account and interview data and handles sign-in.
- OpenAI turns interview questions into the interviewer's spoken voice. It receives only the question text, never your answers or account details.
- Resend delivers account emails (sign-up confirmation, password reset, email change). It receives your email address and the email's contents.
- Upstash keeps short-lived usage counters, keyed by your account id or IP address, to stop abuse such as repeated sign-in attempts. They expire automatically within an hour.
- Stripe processes Ascend Pro payments. We never see or store your full card number; we keep only your Stripe customer id and subscription status.
- Error monitoring (Sentry) receives technical details when something breaks: the error message, code location, and page path. Never your answers or interview content.
- Product analytics (PostHog) receives anonymous usage events such as "interview completed", with no name, email, account id, or interview content.
Security
- Each account can access only its own interview data, enforced at the database level.
- We validate inputs and AI output on the server before storing or displaying them.
- We avoid logging interview content.
Your choices
- Delete any interview, with its answers, scores, and feedback, from your History or from its report.
- Delete your whole account and all of its data at any time from your Account page. Deletion is immediate and permanent.
Deleted interviews still count toward your monthly practice limit. We keep only the date each interview was created for that purpose, never its content, and remove it when you delete your account.
For any other request to access or correct your data, email isaiahchae@gmail.com. Read how we think about feedback on our Responsible AI page.
